What common conditions can lead to knee injuries

Knee injuries can be efficiently treated with even the most basic remedies such as wearing a brace and rehabilitative exercise. Sometimes the injury becomes worse that you are left with an option of surgery.

The knee is a wide ranging joint in the body and one of the most vulnerable to tears. It is composed of four main components; bones, cartilages, ligaments and tendons

Common knee injuries

Your knee is composed of different structures, any of the structure can be easily injured. The most observed knee injuries include fractures around the knee, dislocation, sprain and tears of the soft tissue like ligaments. In most cases the injuries not only remain restricted to the muscles or the bones and can affect more than one structure

Fractures

The most fragile bone that experience fracture around the knee is the patella, the fracture around the knee are consequences of an intense trauma such as sudden falls from heights and motor vehicle accidents

Dislocation

A dislocation is seen when the bones of the knee that move from its original position either completely or partially. Dislocation can be caused by the abnormality of the knee joint or any sudden knee injury

ACL Tears

The anterior cruciate ligament is usually torn during a  sports activity. The athletes performing in high challenging sports like football, soccer and basketball are more exposed to an ACL tear, rapid turns and twists or landing with an incorrect jump tears the  ACL

PCL Injuries

The posterior cruciate ligament is usually the result of a shock from the front of the knee joint when the knee is bent

Meniscal Tears

Meniscal tears are usually associated with the sports. Meniscal tears occur twisting, pivoting, with aggressive movements and being tackled. Also Meniscal tear occurs with aging and arthritis

Tendon Tears

Though tendons may be damaged at any age or activity, usually middle aged people involved in running and jumping activities are more likely to develop tendon tears, sudden fall or inappropriate jumps cause tendon tears leading to knee injuries

Several knee injuries can be treated with simple remedies , such as:

  • Immobilization.
  • Physical therapy.
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines
