Hip Pain & TreatmentS

A VIABLE NON-SURGICAL SOLUTION FOR HIP CONDITION

When conservative treatments such as medication and physical therapy fail to bring pain relief and correcting the conditions like joint arthritis, muscle tear and bursitis, hip replacement surgery becomes the most common resort to treat severe hip conditions.

While once surgery could be considered a last resort, with advances in technology, it is now one of the major ways to treat chronic hip problems. The severity of going into surgery is life altering given the risks associated with surgery. Be it the invasive nature of surgery, the large incision, removal of cartilage and bone, alteration in the muscle tissue or the prosthetic metal implant, it bears huge risk of infection as well as long lasting consequences and agonizing rehabilitation tenure.

That’s the reason doctors as well as patients try to counter the condition with all conservative measures possible. Surgery is chosen as a last resort due to its risky nature and life altering consequences.

Regenerative Medicine has made it possible to treat chronic hip conditions without taking the risk of surgery and heal quickly with no painful long term rehabilitation.

Dr. Zaki Anwar, a pain management specialist, uses Regenerative Medicine, to correct chronic hip conditions, and provide pain relief with an aim to thwart the need for surgery at the same time. He uses a high-tech musculo-skeletal ultrasound machine for the procedure to make sure the accuracy of Stem Cells placement.

The procedure of Regenerative medicine includes Stem cell therapy (derived from non-controversial fat cells or bones) and Platelet Rich Plasma therapy. It sets in motion the body’s own regenerative mechanism. This is done with an accelerated speed to help the patient recover quickly without any prosthetic implant or muscle alteration

NON-SURGICAL OPTIONS FOR HIP PAIN

When conservative treatments such as medications, cortisone or physical therapy fail to bring pain relief and improve conditions like joint arthritis, muscle tear, or bursitis, some say hip replacement surgery is the suggested solution.

Surgery may be the best option as a last resort, but with advances in regenerative medicine, it is now perceived as something to avoid. The severity of going into surgery can be life-altering, given the risks associated by the invasive nature: the incision, removal of cartilage and bone, alteration in the muscle tissue, or the prosthetic metal implant.  It bears the massive risk of infection and long-lasting consequences, not to mention hospital stay, recovery, and rehabilitation process.

Dr. Zaki Anwar, Interventional Pain Management Specialist, will evaluate and review X-ray or MRI imaging to diagnose the cause of pain before making a final recommendation.  Many forms of pain relief treatments are offered including traditional methods that your insurance may cover, as well as stem cell therapy.

Regenerative medicine at Chicago Stem Cell Therapy refers to PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma drawn from a patient's own blood) as well as stem cells obtained from placental, umbilical cord tissue, or amniotic fluid.  Regenerative medicine has made it possible to treat hip injuries and chronic conditions with minimally invasive injections which offer a more natural approach with nearly zero recovery time.  These options accelerate the body's natural healing abilities and instead of masking or numbing your pain, it will repair and regenerate the damaged tissue to begin healing.

RISKS OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE:

The risk associated with Regenerative Medicine is very low.  No incisions or sutures are made and while it is suggested you take it easy the day of and after procedure, there is essentially no recovery time.  The injection site may be a little sore, but applying some ice to the area should relieve that.  If you are experiencing any other type of pain after treatment, please call us to discuss.  There can be additional options to assist through the healing process, including analgesic creams or Pressure Wave (Shockwave) Therapy.   PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) comes from your own blood so there is no risk of rejection or infection.  Stem cells are obtained from a healthy mother who has delivered a healthy baby via scheduled C-section and numerous screenings are run to ensure purity and safety.

TRADITIONAL TREATMENTS FOR HIP PAIN

There are different treatment options for hip pain, but it will depend on the exact cause of pain, the severity, and other aspects that Dr. Anwar will take into account.  Some of these more traditional pain treatments may be covered by insurance and can offer the benefit of temporary relief, but are not typically considered long term solutions.

  • Cortisone injection- This injection, also called “corticosteroid,” is a type of steroid.  It will reduce the pain and inflammation for anywhere between 6 weeks to 6 months and while you may experience additional pain or swelling after the injection, that should resolve in 1-2 days.  Steroid injections can provide successful pain relief, though over time repetitive injections can cause damage to your tissue.

  • Hyaluronic acid injection-  Also called viscosupplementation, this gel like injection of hyaluronic acid provides lubrication in the joint and will temporarily restore the natural function.  This substance provides cushioning that can last for 4-6 months and is less damaging to your tissue than steroids.  You may experience additional pain or swelling after the injection but that should resolve in 1-2 days.  Some products used include EUFLEXXA® - (1% Sodium Hyaluronate), Genvisc®850 5 regimen - Hyaluronic Acid, or Synvisc-One®  (hylan G-F 20)

  • Consuming healthy fats can increase joint health and lubrication. Foods high in healthy fats include salmon, trout, mackerel, avocados, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, and chia seeds. The omega-3 fatty acids in these foods will assist in joint lubrication.

REGENERATIVE THERAPY FOR HIP PAIN

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is thick organic plasma extracted from your own blood and Dr. Zaki Anwar can create yours with more than 30 active growth factors. The platelets repair the damaged tissue and blood vessels, speeding up the body's natural recovery process.

PRP therapy is a next-generation injection treatment commonly utilized to promote accelerated healing.

The function of stem cells is essential in the body as they can transform into any tissue type for your healing needs. For an injured or deteriorated hip, knee, or other joint, the stem cells obtained from umbilical cord, placental tissue, or amniotic fluid injected to the joint and surrounding area become healthy tissue such as cartilage.  Increases in the amount of cartilage between bones can be confirmed by X-ray and therefore diminishes the pain caused by arthritis. The science behind regenerative therapy is that adding a supply of stem cells to the affected area accelerates the body's ongoing natural repair.

At Chicago Stem Cell Therapy we ensure our patients have access to advanced stem cell treatment options for effective regeneration and repair. Stem cells from umbilical cord tissue or amniotic fluid are the minimally invasive, non-surgical approach you need for the results you deserve. It strives to treat or prevent injury and disease by naturally repairing, restoring, and regenerating damaged or diseased tissue.

DOES STEM CELL THERAPY WORK?

It is essential to recognize that every individual is unique, and so are their medical conditions and healing process. Although stem cell therapy is still considered experimental, there is no guarantee for other forms of treatment or surgery either.  After countless studies and research, regenerative therapies have shown extremely successful results for a variety of diagnoses.  It is also important to remember that it takes time to heal, so while some patients may feel near immediate relief, others many not feel the full effect for a few months.  Dr. Zaki Anwar has dedicated his career to the research and development of this ground breaking medicine and has incorporated it into his every day practice.
