Racz procedure (Epidural Neurolysis)

What is the RACZ procedure?

RACZ Epidural Neurolysis is a treatment for back pain caused by epidural adhesions, adhesive arachnoiditis, or failed or prior back surgeries. This injection or series of injections into the spine is performed because of scar tissue from injury or disc herniation.  Racz Epidural Neurolysis has the ability to avoid the need for spinal surgery in many patients because this injection treatment has the ability to provide faster and effective long term relief.

What is the process of a RACZ Epidural Neurolysis?

  • RACZ catheter procedure is mostly performed with the help of local anesthesia
  • With the help of a small probe, a catheter is taken into the epidural space without your feeling any pain
  • A mixture of anti-inflammatory and anesthetic medication is inserted into this space to decrease pain and dissolve scar tissue
  • The physician observes the accurate location of the probe with the help of live X-ray control throughout the procedure
  • Sometimes the injection will be repeated after a few months, if there is a need of dissolving more scar tissue or if pain persists

Do I need a RACZ procedure?

If you suffer from back, leg, or sciatic pain and are looking for surgical alternatives, you may be a candidate for caudal RACZ Epidural Neurolysis.
